HETAS maps training against national standards

HETAS has become the first organisation to successfully map biomass assessments against National Occupational Standards (NOS).

As a result, biomass installer training will be available through the HETAS nationwide network of approved training centres, some of which are approved with the National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies.

Ceo of HETAS, Bruce Allen, said: 'This is fantastic news. It means that skilled heating engineers who might be working on gas or oil can easily add biomass to their qualifications. As well as becoming a biomass partner with the National Skills Academy, HETAS is the only organisation to have biomass training mapped against NOS. This confirms our position as the specialists for solid fuel and biomass training and registration.'

The HETAS H005 biomass installer course covers appliances up to around 70kW and enables installers to carry out feasibility studies, professionally advise customers on fuel types, storage options, system design and installation specification. Successful completion of the H005 course means HETAS registrants can extend their scope of registration with HETAS on their competent persons registration scheme. In addition, the course can be used as part of the criteria for approval with HETAS as an approved Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) installer for biomass.
