Haden Young MD goes 'Beck to shop floor'

Haden Young's managing director David Beck has raised more than 30,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Haden Young MD goes
Beck raised £30,509 for the charity by swapping his boardroom for two days on a construction site.

Beck took time out from work last November to be part of the charity's fundraising initiative to get senior executives sponsored to go 'Back to the Shop Floor'.

Beck worked at the Birmingham New Hospital project, where his firm is responsible for designing, installing and commissioning all building services.

Construction is being carried out by a joint venture of Haden Young and Balfour Beatty Construction. The project comprises a new acute hospital with capacity of 1,213 beds, a 108-bed specialist psychiatric hospital and teaching facility and a separate 32 bedded mental health local facility in Sparkbrook.

Haden Young's project partners, suppliers, staff and customers sponsored David to work on the tools at the Birmingham New Hospital project.

His target of £10,000 was beaten in less than two weeks and his huge fundraising efforts for Marie Curie will be spent on providing quality nursing to terminally ill people, giving them the chance of dying at home supported by their families.

Beck said: 'It was a fun and unusual way to raise money for a fantastic cause but also reminded me what an excellent job my staff do.

'I would like to thank everyone who took part and sponsored me, and helped make the days a success. Many of Haden Young's suppliers and partners made extremely generous donations; the construction industry can be really proud of the way people have rallied round in support
