GTEC Training secures nearly £1 million to train the UK’s green energy workforce

GTEC Training, a United Infrastructure company and provider of renewables and energy efficiency skills training in the UK, has been awarded £978,840 as part of the government’s Warm Homes scheme.

The funding will help GTEC deliver a wide range of courses aimed at supporting the country’s transition to net zero and upskilling existing installers.

This significant funding will be allocated towards 40 retrofit qualifications, 410 solar PV training courses and 770 online insulation training courses. Each of these expert-led courses delivers a mix of practical and theory-based training to equip installers with the skills and knowledge to offer services that complement their existing work and increase competency in other areas.

The investment marks a major step forward in scaling up the workforce required to decarbonise homes and buildings across the UK, and addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the green energy sector.

In addition, GTEC Training has also been confirmed for further government funding to deliver heat network training. This training will be fully funded and will ensure that more professionals are equipped with the knowledge needed to install and maintain low-carbon heating systems across domestic and commercial settings.

GTEC’s managing director, Griff Thomas, commented: 'We’re proud to play a central role in building the UK’s low-carbon workforce. This funding enables us to train thousands of individuals in critical technologies, such as solar PV and insulation, while expanding into areas like heat networks. It’s about giving people the skills to succeed in a rapidly changing energy landscape, and helping the UK meet its climate goals.'

GTEC Training’s programs are delivered at 19 locations across the UK and lead to industry-recognised qualifications accredited by organisations such as LCL Awards, City & Guilds, and OFTEC. The company's facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art training rigs, and it offers bespoke on-site training tailored for larger organisations.

The training provider offers courses in technologies such as heat pumps, solar photovoltaics (PV), battery storage, solar thermal, biomass, electric vehicle (EV) charging, and energy efficiency, plumbing, electrical, oil, health & safety courses, as well as professional services.
