Green Deal is a marathon not a sprint, says SBS

The Green Deal will take time to reach its full potential, according to managing director of Sustainable Building Solutions (SBS), Paul Joyner, who was one of the speakers at Ecobuild last week.
Green Deal is a marathon not a sprint, says SBS
However, SBS is celebrating some early signs of success. The sustainable division of the Travis Perkins Group was overwhelmed with the number of Green Deal related enquiries received at Ecobuild, showing that awareness and interest has grown since its launch in January.

In addition, SBS revealed it had already trained 1000 assessors alongside official partner PPL, which supports its claim that the Green Deal is slowly gaining momentum.

Mr Joyner said: 'The construction industry is used to a sprint with CERT, FiT and the boiler scrappage scheme as the perfect example. However, the Green Deal is not government legislation and deeper issues around homeowner buy in and ageing housing stock mean it could take up to ten years to reach its full potential. Leading companies such as Travis Perkins Group need to continue waving the flag for the Green Deal and similarly for ECO when it arrives.'

He added: 'Ecobuild has again been a fantastic opportunity to do just that and visitors have reacted with a hunger for more information on how these incentives can benefit them and their business. SBS' job now is to continue closing the skills gap, to keep supplying the best solutions possible through the Group whilst encouraging manufacturers to develop the innovative products that are needed to apply efficiency measures to a wider range of housing types.'
