Geo attends Buckingham Palace reception for Queen’s Awards winners

Geo, the Cambridge-based developer of smarter home energy products, attended a reception for winners of the 2017 Queen’s Awards, hosted by Her Majesty The Queen last week at Buckingham Palace.

The 2017 Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation was awarded to Geo in recognition of the technical and business achievements of the company and the progress it has made in introducing ground-breaking solutions to help consumers control their home energy usage. Geo’s chief executive, Patrick Caiger-Smith, was accompanied by Mark Penhaligan, head of programme management, in recognition of the contribution made by the team at Geo.

Mr Caiger-Smith said after the ceremony: “It was an honour to attend the event and represent the whole company. Our talented team has designed a range of products that are helping to lower costs and energy usage in the home, but the award was specifically for the first of these solutions, the Solo in-home energy monitor. It is recognition for years of hard work, commitment and talent and we are very proud.”

Geo was selected for the Queen’s Awards because it was able to demonstrate that the innovation behind the Solo product had been instrumental in its own business development and in the design of other new products. It also provides a well-engineered solution at an acceptable price for Geo’s energy retail customers and consumers, and it has played a role in encouraging the Department of Energy and Climate Change to support in-home displays in the smart metering programme.

The Geo team believes that the technology solutions it designs and develops are a means to a very important end, engaging consumers so that they can bring about a real, tangible change in energy usage that has a positive, long-term impact on climate change.
