Faulty air conditioning heats up riot

A faulty air conditioning unit has been blamed for a riot breaking out in the Spanish holiday resort of Lloret de Mar.
Faulty air conditioning heats up riot
The riots which involved hundreds of young tourists broke out in the early hours in the resort on the Costa Brava, which was reportedly triggered by the failure of an air conditioner in the Colossos nightclub.

The incident occurred at around 2am, when officers evacuated the nightclub due to the air conditioning failure which resulted in several guests fainting and others complaining of dizziness in the club which was particularly crowded as a high profile DJ was playing.

After leaving the premises some customers tried to get back into the club which sparked the first riots, which then spread to the avenue outside. The revellers-turned-rioters then reportedly set fire to rubbish containers in the clashes with police in which 22 people, including nine policemen were injured. No British tourists were amongst the 20 suspected rioters that were arrested, which included 13 French and three Germans.

This is the latest incident in the town, which has become a victim of 'booze tourism' according to locals. The Mayor of Lloret de Mar said that in future the City will address any further incidents more forcefully.
