ECEX awarded new ISO standards

ECEX has achieved two significant ISO standards to further strengthen its environmental and health and safety management processes - ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.

John Grenville, managing director of ECEX.

ISO 14001:2015 provides practical tools for companies and organisations of all kinds looking to manage their environmental responsibilities. It sets out the criteria for an environmental management system and maps out a framework to set up an effective environmental management system.

John Grenville, managing director of ECEX, said: “Using ISO 14001 provides our customers with the assurance that ECEX's environmental impact is being measured and enhanced. I believe it will help us further improve our environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste.

“Like all ISO management system standards, ISO 14001 includes the need for continuous improvement in terms of systems and approach to environmental concerns. This chimes perfectly with our philosophy of focusing on making progress in every aspect of our business.”

ISO 45001:2018, meanwhile, specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OHAS) management system and gives guidance for its use to enable companies to provide safe and healthy workplaces by preventing work-related injury and ill health, as well as by proactively improving their OHAS performance.

OHAS is a multidisciplinary field concerned with the safety, health and welfare of people at work. Occupational health covers employees' overall well-being, addressing potential health concerns. Occupational safety pertains more to the physical well-being of employees, addressing potential safety hazards that can cause injury.

Mr Grenville explained: “We were keen to establish an OHAS management system to improve our occupational health and safety, eliminate hazards and minimise OHAS risks.

“ISO 45001:2018 will help us achieve the intended outcomes of our OHAS management system, including continual improvement of occupational health and safety performance and meeting our legal and other requirements. But, most importantly, it will help us protect our staff.”
