Daikin Europe to fund planting of 100,000 trees

Daikin Europe NV is donating €50,000 to plant 100,000 trees despite missing its target of 100,000 'likes' for its Facebook page on Earth Day 2014.
The company had pledged to donate enough money to plant one tree for every 'like' it received on its Facebook page, if it reached its target of 100,000 on 22 April, in support of Earth Day's Green Cities campaign. It received a total of 35,037 'likes' on the pages of Daikin Europe, Daikin Benelux, Daikin Russia and Daikin Italy.

Although it fell short of its target, the heat pump manufacturer is donating the full amount to WeForest, an international non-profit association that plants bio-diverse forests in the poorest countries around the world, as part of its commitment to environmental protection.

All of Daikin Europe's policies, practices and processes are developed and implemented with environmental sustainability at their heart.

The Green Cities campaign aims to help cities around the world to become more sustainable and reduce their carbon footprint. There are three key areas: buildings, energy, and transportation, all focusing on improvements in efficiency, investments in renewable technology and regulation reform.
