CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering) ceo, Kevin Wellman, is backing the campaign spearheaded by Plumb Center and Honeywell to change the law on carbon monoxide alarms.

There is currently no legal requirement for installers to fit a CO alarm when a carbon-burning appliance is installed. The campaign is aiming to change this.

Mr Wellman said: “We would like to urge as many people as possible to sign the e-petition to force a debate in the House of Commons on this issue. CO alarms cost around £25, a pittance when you think they could save a life, or prevent serious illness. If enough people sign the petition the government will have to listen, as the last thing anyone wants is public safety and welfare to be compromised.”
