CIBSE Technical Symposium programme announced

Climate change, the environment, security and digitisation are all challenges facing built environment professionals and will be addressed in many of the presentations at the 2018 CIBSE Technical Symposium on April 12 and 13 2018.

Hosted by London South Bank University, ‘Stretching the envelope’ is the theme of this year’s symposium, which will focus on responses to these uncertainties.

With an increasing demand to deliver healthy and productive environments to live and work in, we need to look beyond business-as-usual and drive the development of increasingly sustainable future environments.

The CIBSE 2018 symposium aims to provide the construction industry with a technical insight into the methods, technologies and techniques that are either already available or just on the horizon, which will encourage the development of sustainable environments.

This event, now in its eighth year, features presentations and discussions lead by over 50 experts, researchers and leaders in their field on both the established and proven facts, as well as developmental and propositions.

The event will commence with a presentation by Tony Day of the International Energy Research Centre, discussing ‘Collaborative research in the building services sector: adding value and delivering impact’.

Following the opening session, the symposium will split into three streams to accommodate the broad range of topics covered.

Presentations will address the following topics:

  • Designing and assessing high performance buildings
  • Lighting design and evaluation and the lit environment
  • CHP, district energy and heat pumps
  • Indoor Air Quality
  • Data driven development and assessment
  • Moving cities towards the 22nd century
  • Harnessing and optimising utility of natural resources
  • Business skills to boost building performance
  • Training and commissioning for effective lifelong operation
