CIBSE launches transformational symposium

Highlighting its agenda of change, the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) has announced the theme for its ninth annual symposium as 'Transforming Built Environments'.

CIBSE has called for participation and the submission of contributions for this diverse and inclusive event.

CIBSE’s aim with the symposium is to provide an opportunity for building services professionals and academics to examine and share research, developments and applications that will drive change in the built environment. In addition, the symposium will give evidence of opportunities to benefit from established engineering practices.

To build on this year’s event, CIBSE is inviting industry practitioners to make a contribution to the 2019 symposium through the submission and presentation of material. The institution welcomes content in a number of different formats, including papers that represent original research or summarise the current state of understanding on a topic; case study presentations of the application of an engineering or environmental system; and posters that concisely communicate research findings or case studies.

Presentation topics could include building-related energy, acoustics, comfort, electrical systems, IT, lighting, thermal performance, public health, facilities, ventilation and associated systems. Material should be based on current research and application as well as the actual or potential impact on the built environment

Those interested in contributing to this event should submit a 250-word abstract outlining their proposed presentation to cibse.org/symposium by September 17 2018. All submissions will be peer reviewed to assess their suitability. For further information concerning applicable abstracts, visit cibse.org/symposium.

Alongside academics, CIBSE is keen to encourage the participation of practicing designers, contractors and building operators. The symposium committee will therefore also welcome the submission of case studies supported by keynotes as opposed to a formally reviewed paper.

Selected authors will receive the opportunity to present their work to an audience of CIBSE members, building services industry professionals and academics at the 2019 CIBSE Technical Symposium, which will take place at the University of Sheffield on April 25-26.
