Carrier and Daikin call for binding energy targets

Air conditioning manufacturers Carrier and Daikin are amongst a group of more than 30 companies calling for European ministers to agree a binding energy savings target.
The group, which also includes major white goods manufacturers, controls and insulation companies, have signed a joint letter to European Council president Herman Van Rompuy and all national heads of state and government pressing them to fully address energy savings in the upcoming European Energy Summit in Brussels on February 4.
The group maintains that Europe is almost certain to miss its 2020 energy savings target unless extra effort is made immediately. The letter stresses the need to make energy efficiency a priority under the Energy Strategy 2020 and underlines how important it is that the Summit itself takes firm action on energy savings measures across Europe. Current voluntary efforts are failing, it says.
Among the signatories are Philippe Delpech, president of Carrier EMEA and Frans Hoorelbeke, chairman of Daikin Europe.
