For ICOM, consultant Bob Walsh, said the Commercial Benchmark is a nationally recognised scheme endorsed by manufacturers with the intention of giving the installers the responsibility of ensuring the installation and servicing of equipment is carried out in accordance with the regulations.
He said: “The reality is that products are getting more complex which means the demands on the system are changing.
“There are competent installers who do an excellent job and this scheme will be supported by those, but there is always a minority who tarnish the reputation of the majority.
“What the Commercial Benchmark will do is send a message out to cowboy installers that manufacturers will not carry the cost of their incompetence,” Mr Walsh said.
Going forwards manufacturers will lend their support by putting into their literature a checklist, which will be the bare minimum of what installers need to check. This will give the customer evidence of compliance that a product has been commissioned in accordance with the checklist and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
