Baxi is on an operational efficiency drive through smart energy data analysis and its application of World Class Manufacturing principles.
The reduction in electricity use sits within Baxi’s wider efficiency, safety and quality strategy across manufacturing, logistics and product performance, reinforced by its recent move to reduce HGV emissions by approximately 99% by switching to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).
As a manufacturer at the forefront of supporting homes and businesses in the transition to clean heat, Baxi is focused on eliminating waste to improve the sustainability of its own operations. The company launched World Class Manufacturing (WCM) at its Preston factory towards the end of 2024 to provide a structured, continuous improvement framework across various pillars, one of which is Environment & Energy.
A significant part of the work to reduce electricity consumption was the implementation of an electricity submetering system to monitor the entire energy usage at the factory in real time. Having access to this data has allowed Baxi to eliminate any unnecessary weekend or out-of-hours electricity usage at its Preston factory and to focus in on energy-intensive component areas where changes needed to be made.
Chloe Bottomley, Baxi’s environment, health and safety advisor, explained: “As a major manufacturer, with a proud 160-year heritage, we have a responsibility to lead the way in sustainability.
“The ClearVUE.Zero Energy monitoring portal helped us to pinpoint our energy use. But the significant electricity reduction could not have been achieved without the active engagement of all our team at Preston. And we’re not stopping here. With our company-wide culture of sustainability and internal Energy Community driving energy efficiency, we are continuing our efforts to do better for our customers, communities and the planet.”
