Adexsi sees dramatic increase in CE marking enquiries

According to Adexsi UK the requirement for building services products to carry a CE Mark is having a major impact on the ventilation and smoke extraction market.
Company director Kerry Jones says the firm has seen a dramatic increase in enquiries about CE marking, with awareness high among specifiers and their suppliers.

Since 1 July this year it has been mandatory for many products to carry a CE mark in line with new UK legislation introduced as part of the new European Construction Products Regulation (CPR). Building control officers are now checking to ensure contractors are only installing suitably tested and accredited products. Where they find lack of compliance they are referring it to trading standards officers for potential prosecutions of suppliers.

A wide range of building services products are subject to the CE marking legislation including: flues; roof and wall louvres; chimneys and fittings; heat and smoke extraction systems; fire and smoke dampers; fire rated ductwork; radiators and heat emitters.

As part of a European manufacturing group, Adexsi UK, was already well prepared for the legislation because Europe has been subject to CE marking law since the early 1990s. The company's smoke ventilators are all CE approved and also carry the 'CE' label in their title.

Responsible manufacturers are now calling for tight policing of the new law to guard against non-compliant and counterfeit products.

Kerry Jones said: 'The bona fide industry is keen to work with building control and trading standards to ensure a level playing field for all quality suppliers.'

The housing industry of Australia / HIA is in the process of developing a product registration and marking system for all building products, based in part on the CE marking scheme, perhaps the UK and wider EU community should consider doing the same for suppliers/manufacturers in these markets.
