Shut up and catch up you backward old t*****s

I started in aircon 23 years ago. Back then, the new innovation was the inverter-driven compressor. Over the next 10 years this technology completely took over our industry. The ability for a machine to match the load required completely automatically completely won us all over; now it's almost impossible to buy non-inverter aircon units. ... Aircon can be fun if you're American... and stupid

I've just been sent a news item about kids going up on the roof of buildings, not to steal lead but to release the refrigerant from aircon units to grab a cheap high. See http://cbsloc.al/MsmwHP... Read the rest of this article...

Do PTFE and glycol mix?

In my role as a heat pump distributor I get asked many and varied questions. People seem to think that if you can size and spec a heat pump you might know the answer to any heating related question. ... Read the rest of this article...

Anyone for pizza?

Last week a webinar was held all about the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). For the uninitiated, a webinar is a PowerPoint presentation you can watch in real time, or any time afterwards given over the web. Webinars are cheap to do and suck every last ounce of oomph out of a presentation. They are notoriously boring to watch and this one was no exception to the rule.... Its been an age. How have you been?

Its been over a year since I last blogged here. I have been busy trying to flog heat pumps, but I thought I would use my return to blogging to look at what's changed in the heat pump world. ... Read the rest of this article...

Being Green makes sitting down expensive

As you will probably be aware, the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) was unveiled a couple of months ago. In a stroke of financial genius it has been given to technologies nobody buys. It was a simple way of giving with one hand and taking with the other, a classic Tory plan.... Read the rest of this article...

Observations of a traveling man - the world is doomed

I've just returned home from my honeymoon in Kenya. Kenya is a lovely place, all turquoise sea and safari parks, apart from the cities which look like a huge, filthy car boot sale. Despite that, I can heartily recommend the country - the people are lovely and are very keen for us to visit them.... Read the rest of this article...

Is the RHI bad for multi splits?

Everyone I have spoken to today in our industry is gutted. The much anticipated RHI electricity bill rebate has been put on hold for air source heat pumps until October 2012. But all is not lost, DECC have made available a small installation subsidy of £850 per system for all heat pumps - air to air and air to water.... Read the rest of this article...
