Ziehl-Abegg cancels China flights

The German company Ziehl-Abegg has decided to cancel all flights from or to China following the outbreak of the coronavirus. Chief executive, Peter Fenkl, explained: “The health of our employees is more important than a financial benefit of the company.”

The company headquarters in Germany and the subsidiary in Japan sent thousands of protective face masks to its production facility in China after the employees there we told there were not enough masks for them to buy.

Ziehl-Abegg China has been asked to send more than 70 fans to the new hospital in Wuhan within the next few days.

Jason Liu, managing director of Ziehl-Abegg China, commented: “We will try to deliver all fans.”

However, all 450 employees are in the midst of the Chinese New Year holidays and the German based company follows the Shanghai Municipal government requirement, to extend the holiday until February 10th.

Mr Liu continued: “It is great that the Chinese government has reacted so fast and built a new hospital in this short time. I’m sure that a lot of employees will support the help for the people in Wuhan and produce fans over the next few days for the new hospital.”

He further explained how these fans were special for the hospital, as the electric drive is a highly efficient EC motor which saves energy. Furthermore, the impeller is produced by a special composite material and the fan is anti-bacterial, without the possibility of corrosion.

Steffen Sinn, area sales manager at Ziehl-Abegg, Germany, said: “If it isn’t possible to produce the fans in our production facility in China, we try to send them from other production facilities of Ziehl-Abegg to Wuhan.”
