Viessmann and its Heroes of Heat team of volunteer installers, along with generous industry partners, have installed a complete heating system for free at the new Wistaston Scout Centre, near Crewe in Cheshire.
After the existing old wooden hut, used by the 120 scouts, cubs and beavers of the 35th South West Cheshire Scout Group, was demolished, parents and local businesses raised £100,000 to build and equip a new hut. However, funds did not stretch to cover the heating and plumbing.
Viessmann stepped in with the offer of a free Vitodens boiler, with QRL donating 12 radiators. Spirotech, M-Press Fittings, IMI Hydronic Engineering, Plumbase and Buildbase also supplied parts for free.
John Bennett, group scout leader, stated: “It means so much to Wistaston Scout Group that Viessmann and 15 people who have never met our children have come along and worked together to put in a new heating system. We were so close to finishing the centre ourselves but ran out of cash. This gift to help a community they don't know has given us such a boost.”
Jonathan Hallam, trainer at Viessmann, commented: “This was Viessmann’s second Heroes of Heat installation and our enthusiasm for doing good for worthy community projects has doubled. We also used the event to carry out installer training and on this occasion, we even introduced some of the scouts to pipe-bending and other plumbing techniques!”
When Wistaston Scout Centre is fully functional, it will be used five evenings a week and for overnight scouting events. Third party groups will also be able to benefit from using the centre.
