Viessmann and Heat for Good deliver rugby club makeover

Clayton Rugby League Football Club, an amateur rugby league club in Bradford, West Yorkshire, recently received a substantial free makeover to its clubhouse as part of a 'Community Kindness' initiative sponsored by Viessmann and organised by the Pulse 1 and Pulse 2 radio stations.

At the heart of the renovation is a completely new heating system, supplied and installed by the Heat for Good heating industry collective.

11 installers gave up their time for free to fit a Viessmann Vitodens 100-W combi boiler, with radiators from Barlo, pump from Grundfoss, press fittings from M-Press, copper pipe from Plumbase and a low loss header from Spirotech.

In addition to the heating system upgrade, volunteer tradespeople from around the region, as well as an army of local residents and rugby club members, pulled together under the project to provide a new roof and toilets, as well as painting and decorating, industrial cleaning, asbestos consultancy and skip hire.

Darren McMahon, marketing director at Viessmann, which is official heating partner to nearby Huddersfield Town FC, said: “There is no doubt that the Clayton Rugby League Club makeover will significantly impact the local community and absolutely everyone involved should be proud of what has been achieved to turn the clubhouse into one that is now comfortable, safe and fit for purpose.

“The old heating system was in dire need of replacement; it’s something that clubs like Clayton struggle to fund without some help. Viessmann has a strong connection to the West Yorkshire area and we are very grateful to our industry friends for donating products and, of course, to the real stars, the installers, who came from as far afield as Brighton and Loughborough.”

Heat for Good is an open membership charity install programme, comprising heating industry suppliers and installers, and administered by Viessmann on behalf of all parties. Its last project was at Let’s Play, a charity providing after-school and holiday activities for over 100 disabled children in Oxfordshire.

Clayton Rugby League Club was founded in 1947 and has occupied the clubhouse since 2000. The club currently fields one open age adult team and seven junior teams, as well as two snooker and two billiards teams.

“This makeover of our clubhouse will give it a completely new lease of life; it will really put us on the map. We’re hoping to increase our membership and encourage more youngsters to join the club and take up rugby league. We can’t say thankyou enough to Heat for Good, Viessmann and Pulse radio,” said David Pickthall, steward of the club.
