TrustMark introduces mini form of contract

TrustMark, the Government endorsed quality mark for tradesmen, in association with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), has launched a Mini Form of Contract designed to protect homeowners and tradesmen carrying out repairs, maintenance and improvements on homes, both internally and externally.
The contract will cost £4.95 and has been designed specifically for minor works at values of £20,000 or less (at 2011 prices) and lasting for no more than 12 weeks, described by drawings and/or specification/schedule of works.

It will include insurance backed warranty cover which will provide financial protection for both the contractor and the client in the event of any issue arising. The contract also includes a latter of invitation and form of tender document, enabling the interested firm to complete the requested contract details and associated costs.

Head of PR and marketing at TrustMark, Stuart Carter, said: 'Over the last few months we have been working closely with the CIOB to produce a suitable 'low value' contract, which is fit for purpose and as user friendly as possible.

'Contracts should reflect the needs of users, ie, the consumer and the contractor, as well as being legally enforceable to protect both parties.

'As we all know in the construction industry there are ever changing legislations and laws so therefore it is vital to keep works contracts as comprehensive as they can be.'
