Swiftclean moves to Improve Fire Safety in High-Rise Housing

Swiftclean UK Ltd, a leading UK provider of duct cleaning services to the social housing sector, will be holding a free half-day seminar called Improving Fire Safety in High-Rise Housing at The Institute of Directors, 116 Pall Mall, London SW1Y 5ED on October 15 2010.
The seminar is designed for stakeholders of UK social housing, local authorities, housing associations and ALMOs, government officials working in the field of social housing, insurers, tenant liaison officers and contractors working for social housing authorities.

The event will be co-sponsored by Fire Services Engineering and Flakt Woods.

Speakers include:

  • an expert from Burgoynes, speaking on fire investigation, the aftermath of a fire and common causes of fire spread in high-rise housing

  • an expert from Warrington Certification Ltd on selecting a fire risk assessor using the Fire Risk Assessor Accreditation Scheme (FRACS), and the importance of employing competent fire risk assessors.

  • a specialist from Swiftclean UK will speak on extract system fire safety maintenance to reduce the risk of fire spread via common extract systems, including the importance of retro-installation of fire separation to individual flat extract spigots

  • Flakt Woods will explain the benefits of Smoke Angle, a system which can be retrofitted to high-rise housing to allow, in a fire, pressurisation of escape stairs to keep them clear of smoke.

  • 'We anticipate considerable interest in this event given the number of fires that have occurred in high-rise social housing over the last few years,' said Gary Nicholls, managing director of Swiftclean UK.

'We hope that a broad spread of people active in different areas of social housing will join us. If this occasion proves to be as successful as we hope, we may arrange further similar seminars in the key regional centres.'

Senior people in all areas of social housing management are invited to contact Swiftclean UK on 01702 531221 or by email to info@swiftclean.co.uk for details of arranging attendance at this free seminar.
