Scrappage scheme's first week prompts 72,000 enquiries

The Department of Energy and Climate Change said the boiler scrappage scheme has been 'highly popular' with 72,000 calls received in the first week, but the Energy Savings Trust admits the incentive's popularity could see funding run out by March.
The Greener Boiler Incentive' will ensure that from January 18, vouchers worth £400 will be sent to the first 125,000 eligible households that register with the Energy Saving Trust via phone and website.

The scheme funds householders looking to replace their G-rated (or worse) boilers with energy-efficient heating systems. The Energy Savings Trust received 72,000 enquiries in the first five days, since the launch of the scheme on January 5 and admitted interest in the incentive could result in funding reaching its limit by March.

'The scheme's been very popular. We're very happy with the take up. There are vouchers available and people should apply for the scheme', said a spokesman for DECC.
