Proposals for more efficient heating in Wales could save the nation 98,000 tonnes of carbon a year between 2008 and 2017.
A report by a cross-party group of Welsh assembly members proposes to power Wales' buildings with renewable energy generated on-site.

Published on March 5, the report proposes that new developments with more than five dwellings and all commercial developments must produce at least 10% of their energy on-site or nearby from renewable sources. Smaller building projects would have cut their carbon emissions by 25%.

The Sustainability committee wants Westminster to devolve the power to set building regulations to the assembly.

It also recommends cash grants be made available to help homeowners install solar panels and wind turbines to heat and light their homes.

The report suggests the assembly government should give 1% of the Welsh GDP to fight climate change.
