Ravenheat supports VAT discount campaign for boilers

Louis Pickersgill, managing director of Ravenheat, has voiced his support of the campaign to reduce VAT to 5 per cent on professionally installed domestic central heating boilers and passive flue heat recovery.
Currently 5 per cent VAT is only applied to professionally installed heating controls, insulation and solar panels, and yet boilers, which account for around 60 per cent of carbon dioxide emissions from an average household heated by gas, and passive flue heat recovery systems are taxed at the higher rate of 20 per cent.

'This discrepancy in taxation is both illogical and impractical,' said Louis Pickersgill. 'In today's current economic climate, cost is undoubtedly the main barrier between homeowners and the installation of an efficient heating system - if it still works why replace it?

'By reducing the VAT to 5 per cent, the Government will undoubtedly be taking the necessary steps towards encouraging more efficient households.'
