Plumbing firms petition for boiler scrappage in Scotland

A petition urging the Scottish government to follow Westminster by introducing a boiler scrappage scheme in Scotland, has been posted by SNIPEF (Scottish & Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers' Federation).
Representing nearly 700 plumbing and heating businesses in Scotland (employing nearly 3500 operatives) SNIPEF's petition snipef.org/boilerscrappage, calls on the Scottish Parliament to introduce a financial incentive to encourage the replacement of older, inefficient central heating boilers.

'We have decided to launch this as an e-petition as a means of demonstrating to the Scottish government that such a scheme would be popular in Scotland and we encourage people to sign the e-petition before the closing date of February 19, 2010,' said SNIPEF director Robert Burgon

'We understand the government's position over focusing the assistance to those who are affected by fuel poverty and we are sure that a scheme can be developed which both does this and addresses the environmental damage caused by inefficient central heating boilers', he added'.

I think the Scottish government should follow their colleagues from England and introduce a boiler scrappage scheme.

Given the Scottish government's clear policies to help reduce global warning and trying to minimise the carbon footprint of every Scot, then this can only help them acheive this goal.

Carbon reductions for northern arena

Rinnai hot water systems are projected to produce ‘significant’ carbon reductions at a huge indoor arena in the North of England. The company has produced a designed system based on its R290 high-temperature heat pump. This arena regularly hosts large events such as concerts, conferences, theatre plays, exhibitions, live music and other conventions – so the site must have an energy efficient and carbon-reducing hot water system to achieve NetZero.
