OFTEC launches full scope Part P scheme

The Oil Firing Technical Association (OFTEC) has introduced a full scope Part P scheme to allow existing registrants to self certify fixed low or extra-low voltage electrical installations.
OFT 103 replaces OFTEC's defined scope scheme and is priced at £199 + vat for annual registration.

Colin Beckett of Lincolnshire, one of the first OFTEC registered technicians to sign up to the OFT 103 scheme, said: 'I added full scope Part P to my OFTEC registration purely because of the electrical work that needs doing as part of a boiler installation. Often I'll need to put in fused spurs, thermostats and other wiring, so being able to do all that work myself made sense.'

Under Part P of the building regulations in England and Wales, electrical work should comply with BS 7671 and certain specified electrical works are notifiable to the local authority. OFTEC's extension to scope to include Part P involves an annual on-site visit by an appointed technical expert to assess competence. A free technical helpline will also be available to registrants.

In addition, the OFTEC works notification system means that registrants can notify their jobs quickly and easily. Through a low cost online system technicians can ensure that the local authority is notified and that householders receive a certificate of compliance.
