New apartment heat pump meets decarbonisation challenge

Swedish heat pump manufacturer, Qvantum, has launched a new water to water heat pump in the UK, designed to meet the challenges of decarbonising cities.

With the announcement of the Future Homes Standard and the Warm Homes Plan, heat pumps are the leading choice for sustainable homes but solutions for urban areas can bring extra complexity, due to issues of space, noise and air quality.

The compact QG water to water heat pump is the perfect solution for developers working with 5th generation ambient heat networks and shared boreholes across new build and retrofit in cities.  With a wide operating envelope, the QG is suitable for a mix of energy sources — from ground arrays and surface water to centralised plant and waste heat from nearby assets.

“At Qvantum, we are committed to creating products for the harder to solve projects – for example the challenge of decarbonising urban homes. We believe that you can find real advantages of planning residential energy systems in the context of the wider urban environment. The QG is a solution that allows you take advantage of heat that is being wasted elsewhere to create a system that benefits the homeowner, the property developer and the wider community” said Philip Ord, UK CEO.

The QG delivers heating, cooling, and domestic hot water in a single integrated unit, featuring an accumulator tank that acts as a thermal battery with heat storage up to 90°C. With FlexReady® functionality and API connectivity, it optimises energy use by operating during periods of low electricity prices or renewable surplus and is ready for flexible energy markets. Domestic hot water is produced instantly via a heat exchanger, eliminating legionella risk and simplifying water quality requirements

The QG uses r290 refrigerant and is available with an inbuilt source-side pump for use in individual or shared ground source projects or with a PIC-valve (QG-C) for use in ambient loop, both as 7kW and 14kW options.

With its intuitive controls, the QG gives residents across our cities the chance to access cutting edge technology and be part of a stable, climate-friendly energy future.

Key features and benefits include:

Ideal solution for 5th generation heat networks

Wide operating envelope (-10°C to 40°C) makes it suitable for any energy source

Ultra-low r290 charge – no mitigation required

Pre-plumbed, plug-and-play design for fast installation

Integrated thermal store

Instantaneous domestic hot water for comfort and efficient legionella prevention

Compact footprint makes it suitable for retrofit and new build

Easy to use Qvantum app also supports remote diagnostics

All Qvantum products are future-proofed with over-the-air updates and built-in flexible tariff readiness

Available as 7kW and 14kW

By combining a compact footprint, a natural refrigerant with low climate impact, and advanced digital and modular capabilities, QG represents a modern heating solution aligned with the transition toward more sustainable energy systems.
