HETAS introduces new training courses

HETAS has launched an updated range of solid fuel and biomass training courses which feature new modular formats, as well as improved theory and practical assessments.

The courses have been developed by HETAS working with industry stakeholders and the format has been revised to meet the latest industry needs and standards.

Following the launch of the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) demand for HETAS training has increased, particularly for its biomass course. Last year there was a 40% increase in the number of candidates attending the training courses compared to 12 months earlier. As the only competent person scheme specialising in solid fuel and biomass, HETAS offers a wide range of courses from an introduction to solid fuel through to the more advanced stove and biomass installer training and chimney system training.

Chief executive Bruce Allen said: 'The solid fuel and biomass sector is growing, no doubt as a result of impetus from the RHI. We are constantly reviewing and revising our courses to meet demand, and as well as catering for the solid fuel industry we also offer a range of courses ideal for gas and oil installers who are looking to expand their skills and offer biomass to their customers.'

Refresher training is also proving popular with new legislation requiring that from June 2014 anyone registered with a competent person scheme must have up to date training qualifications. That means they must have attended either a training course or a refresher course within the last five years. In total there are 20 HETAS approved training centres in the UK and Ireland, with plans already in place for more centres in the UK and Ireland to meet increasing demand.
