Thefts of heating oil in Cornwall and Devon from properties have doubled in a year.
Devon and Cornwall Police announced the increase in the number of incidents of heating oil theft from 120 incidents in winter 2010/11 compared to 58 in 2009/10.
The police suggest that tank owners should protect their oil with locks or even CCTV, and to install level meters to ensure that owners are aware of how much they have in reserve and if they have been broken into.
