EHPA calls for more ambition to transform European energy system

Following the recent proposal regarding a 30% energy efficiency target (23 July), the European Commission says that a bigger push is needed to transform the European Energy system.

EHPA is urging EU Member States to support the Commission proposal and to push the proposed achievement level even higher. It says that Europe needs swift and decisive action showing markets that policy makers are seriously working on the energy transition.

The association is calling for strong commitment by the European Commission and the heads of states to make energy efficiency a cornerstone of Europe's Climate and energy policy.

It says that a mandatory and ambitious target greater than 30%, along with requirements on the use of renewable and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions are needed.

These three mutually reinforcing targets would then create planning security and bring Europe forward towards achieving its climate and energy targets and to eventually realise a sustainable energy supply.
