District heating gets funding boost

Some £25.5m has been allocated for 2009/10 by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) for district heating schemes in England.
The HCA confirmed, on April 1, that some of this funding was to be given to three council-led schemes in Nottingham, Coventry and Leeds through the Low Carbon Infrastructure Fund (LCIF).

Nottingham City Council will use its £1.8m share to connect more than 3,500 households and businesses to city's London Road Heat Station.

Coventry City Council will use its £2.3m share to extend a district heating system to new campus buildings at Coventry university, council buildings and new residential property.

In Leeds, £700,000 of LCIF funds will pay for the establishment of a combined heat and power plant for 221 homes.

The LCIF is a joint initiative between the HCA, the Department for Communities and Local Government and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).
