Climate Week reminder about opportunities for installers

Climate Week, the major international climate summit held in New York last week, served as a timely reminder of the business opportunities presented by the decarbonisation agenda, according to Iain Bevan, commercial manager of heating and renewables at Daikin UK.

In his comment following the summit, Mr Bevan said: “Homes are responsible for 40% of the UK’s total carbon footprint and the majority of household emissions come from heating, so reaching the national target of net-zero CO2 by 2050 will require a major shift in the way homes are heated. This presents a huge opportunity for new and existing installers as the installation of renewable heating systems scales up.

“But there’s a worrying level of misunderstanding among the general public about the technology that can help to make this happen, such as heat pumps. When we surveyed homeowners last month, almost a third told us they know they could take action at home to be more environmentally friendly, but a lack of knowledge on the tech available to help is holding them back.

“Our hope is that Climate Week helps installers spark conversations with their customers on the myths and misconceptions that surround green home technology and open their eyes to the benefits of renewable heating. For example, a heat pump can reduce a home’s CO2 emissions by 43.5 tonnes over its lifetime – that’s the same carbon impact as taking two cars off the road for 10 years. Not only that, but it could save a four-bedroom household up to £377 on energy bills each year, compared with a gas boiler.

“And with gas boilers likely to be banned in new homes from 2025, now is the time for installers to encourage customers to start thinking about the advantages of making the change.

“We’re committed to supporting installers with training and helping them connect with customers so that they can take advantage of the opportunities coming from the UK’s shift to eco-friendly heating.

“As part of our Energy for Change campaign, Daikin has created the Sustainable Home Network to provide top quality, free heat pump training to installers across the county, helping them futureproof their businesses and support the UK’s transition towards a more sustainable future.”
