Sponsored by Baxi Commercial, the award recognises the best graduate from a programme related to CIBSE/ASHRAE activities and Emma Marshall claimed her prize at the awards ceremony in London on October 16.

Emma impressed the judges with her presentation on 'Energy Efficiency in Existing Buildings; the key to creating a sustainable built environment'. She is being rewarded with a trip to the 2010 winter ASHRAE meeting in Orlando, USA.

During the evening, all six shortlisted finalists made presentations on the same theme in front of a judging panel. The two runners up were Christopher Pountney of Bristol University and Francis Li of University College London.

ASHRAE president Gordon Holness gave his annual lecture and CIBSE president Mike Simpson emphasised the importance of supporting graduates and outlined the institution's training initiatives.

The CIBSE Patrons group celebrated its 30th anniversary with a gala dinner. Guests listened to after dinner speaker Humphrey Walters who gave a speech on leadership management.
