CIBSE Conference focuses on resilience

CIBSE National Conference 2010 Resilience and Buildings Services – How to Secure the Future 27th & 28th April, British Museum, London
The CIBSE 2010 National Conference will focus on the key issue of resilience: energy resilience, design resilience and technology resilience, with two days of presentations and case studies from expert speakers.

The conference will equip building services specialists with an insight into scenario planning for commercial resilience and provide information on the political, legal, environmental and technical changes which will have significant impact in the next two to five years.

For the technically astute, there will be sessions on energy demand management and balancing, smart grids and IP networks; on the use of multiple renewable; on providing real value from commissioning and on the issues of real versus predicted energy use in buildings.

Day One starts with a look at 'Scenarios for the future' from Professor David Gann, head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Imperial College Business School, while Terry Dix, director at Arup, advises on best practice to avoid litigation in his presentation 'Avoid disappointments: do what it says on the tin'. Both energy resilience and design resilience will be considered in detail in the afternoon sessions, while the day closes with a dinner and debate hosted by the CIBSE Young Engineers Network.

Day Two gets underway with a focus on 'Business opportunities and challenges from forthcoming legislation' with speakers including Keith Clarke, chief executive of Atkins and chairman of the Construction Industry Council, Richard John, head of Sustainability at AECOM, and Rokia Raslan, Bartlett School of Graduate Studies, UCL. Other topics for the day include: 'The Business of Carbon' and 'Technology resilience'. The conference ends with a panel discussion on 'Renewables and how they can work in partnership'.

Early Bird Rate available until February 26.
