CARE International challenges construction industry

Overseas development agency CARE International has thrown down the gauntlet to the construction industry in the shape of the CARE Construction Challenge, which takes place on on July 2, 2011.
Taking place in Cannock Chase in Staffordshire, the challenge will see teams from across the industry cover the distance of a marathon on foot, bike and canoe.

CARE aims to raise £100,000 through the challenge, to support the charity's poverty-fighting work overseas.

CARE Challenge manager Neil Munro said: 'The CARE Construction Challenge will include biking forest tracks, canoeing on a river and a spectacular trail challenge, with a few mystery challenges thrown in- plus a one hour bonus stage for the super fit and ultra competitive! It's a fantastic teambuilding and networking opportunity for a great cause.'

CARE works in more than 70 countries helping 59 million of the world's poorest people find a route out of poverty.

Sheltering vulnerable people and families is a crucial aspect of CARE's work, which includes some of the most important and pioneering emergency shelter and reconstruction projects in the world. For example, funds raised could help pay for the deployment and assessment carried out by CARE's emergency shelter advisers used in emergencies like the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and floods in Pakistan; or projects including erecting temporary shelter for families whose homes and lives have been devastated by war, or training communities in safer and longer-lasting construction techniques.

The CARE Challenge Team offers participants expert advice on training and fundraising. The final challenge of the event will be summoning enough energy for the post-event reception where teams will toast the top fundraisers and celebrate a great achievement on the dance floor.
