Carbon Trust seeks new green champions

Trade organisations are being invited to secure up to £140,000 for carbon reduction projects.
Trade, professional or members bodies are being encouraged to step forward to help their members tackle climate change.

Funding up to £140,000 is being provided by The Carbon Trust, through its Networks Initiative which supports bodies that highlight the cost of wasted energy and carbon emissions.

The funding also backs the development of technical guidance and toolkits designed to help industries manage carbon reduction measures and energy use more effectively.

To apply for funding, applicants are required to produce a detailed plan outlining how their initiative will deliver demonstrable carbon dioxide emissions savings, by January 9, 2008.
Proposals are judged on their ability to deliver cost-effective carbon emission reduction.

Previous funding from the Carbon Trust Networks Initiative has helped trade organisations including the British Property Federation (BPF) galvanise action from its members.

Networks funding helped the BPF develop the landlord's energy statement (LES) which allows landlords to summarise their energy use and work out the carbon dioxide emissions from their office buildings' landlord's services - in areas including heating and air conditioning.

Since the launch of the Networks Initiative in 2005, the Carbon Trust has provided £2.5m of funding to support 41 different projects. This has resulted in savings of 200,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide since 2005.

Interested organisations wishing to secure funding can find out how by visiting www.carbontrust.co.uk/carbon/networks.
