Businesses call for stronger position on draft EED

Knauf Insulation, Danfoss Randall and Trane, along with the UK Green Building Council, other businesses, green groups and professional bodies, have written a joint letter to Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Davey, asking him to reconsider the UK's stance on the draft European Energy Efficiency Directive (EED).
Although the signatories of the letter agree that a strong EED will help to cut carbon emissions, improve energy security and help the green economy, they are unhappy with the Government's opposition to a binding 20% energy savings target.

They believe that a strong EED, with binding targets and measures, is required to ensure that the EU meets its energy saving target of 20% and to provide certainty for business and investors, creating opportunities for UK companies and generating jobs.

Other signatories to the letter include Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace UK and the Royal Institute of British Architects.
