BSRIA workplace and environmental seminars staged to highlight H&S regulations

Stacey Ward, sales manager, BSRIA Instrument Solutions (pictured), gave a presentation on the new product launch of the TSI AM520 personal aerosol monitor. This portable unit easily captures real time data of mass concentration readings, which is ideal for workplace monitoring, specifically in the workers’ breathing zone.

BSRIA recently staged two one day dust monitoring seminars which covered the workplace as well as the external environment and gave insights into compliance with H&S regulations and legislation, alongside solutions for day-to-day applications.

The important issues of dust in the work environment, the effect of employee health and respiratory equipment were all scrutinised.

He said: “Workplace exposure limits (WEL) are becoming increasingly vital for the health and wellbeing of the employee. Monitoring to show that you are compliant and that preventative actions are in place (for example: FaceFit, respiratory testing) is best practice to both protect you and your employees. The consequence of employee health from potential dust in the work place cannot be underestimated enough.”

Maxine Dolloway, TSI, gave an overview of workplace and dust monitoring followed by Nick Baxter, HSL, with a presentation on PPE and respiratory protection.

Nick also highlighted the importance of wearing the appropriate, adequate and correctly-fitted breathing apparatus and demonstrated this using the FaceFit Respirator Demonstrator (FFRED). Stacey also examined the effects of personal dust monitoring.

Nick Brown, TSI, rounded off the morning with a presentation about environmental dust monitoring.

After a networking lunch, the event concluded with a practical workshop: a hands-on session which will enabled all delegates to become familiar with a range of products suitable for both internal and external environments, with experts available to answer questions as they arose.

The seminars also covered topics such as recent air quality papers and research.

They were cohosted by the BSRIA Instrument Solutions team and TSI, a leading global equipment supplier of equipment into this metrological field.
