BSI offers subscription product on EuPs

BSI has just published a new subscription product which will help manufacturers comply with the European Directive on energy using products (EuPs).
EuPs account for a significant proportion of the consumption of natural resources and energy within the European Community. The purpose of the directive is to help deliver EU targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the adverse environmental impacts of EuPs.

Energy-using Products: A Guide to the implementation of European Directive 2005/32/EC is designed to help users comply with the requirements of the EuP Directive by providing all the relevant information in one place, offering practical advice for compliance.

The focus of Directive 2005/32/EC is on the product design process, the stage that most influences the resources used across a product's life cycle. This new guide highlights the potential impact of the Directive on product design and manufacture in the UK.

The EuP Directive Guide is divided into three sections:

  • Introduction - purpose of Directive 2005/32/EC, how products are assessed and information regarding the implementation of the EuP Directive into UK legislation

  • Scope of the Directive - how different product groups could be affected, and the main ecodesign requirements for each.

  • Guide to compliance - guidance on monitoring and assessing compliance

  • Appendices include relevant European directives and standards and the text of the EuP Directive and related legislation.
