Boiler scrappage scheme petition goes live
Mick Williams, managing director of Williams & Co, based in Fareham, has posted a petition on the Downing Street website urging the government to work with boiler manufacturers to introduce a boiler scrappage scheme.

'There are, I understand, some four million band G boilers still in use. These are sending some 13 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere' said Willliams.

'Changing these to condensing boilers or heat pumps or other forms of renewables could save enough energy to heat 3.4m homes for a year', he added.

With the construction industry in recession, a boiler scrappage scheme could generate business for plumbers, central heating installers, plumbers merchants as well as save householders money.

The online petition states: 'The recently introduced car scrappage scheme has proved a success for the car industry, but a boiler scrappage scheme, along the same lines, could be even more successful.

Reading your petition you mention the building trade is in recession probably because you tradesmen are just plain greedy.

Ask people out there if they can get hold of a plumber, let alone being able to afford the quotes. i.e I've just been asked for £900 by a chippy to fit a kitchen (cash in hand) - that's just 200 less than I earn in a month and I can't fiddle the tax. Mine gets taken at source. No wonder you want a scrappage scheme you greedy gits.
