arbnco represents UK in European eco project

Scottish proptech company arbnco has been chosen as the only UK representative for MEZeroE, a European Commission research project that aims to accelerate technologies to promote healthy indoor environment and carbon neutral innovations.

Andrew Stewart, arbnco R&D manager

arbnco has been awarded €278K for its role in the five-year project, which is coordinated by EURAC research – an innovation centre for applied research and scientific training headquartered in South Tyrol, Italy.

The project brings together 25 partners from across nine European countries to develop building technologies of the future. Its total budget of €17M comes from the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.

arbnco is deploying arbn well, its innovative indoor environment monitoring platform that provides real-time monitoring of the effects of the indoor environment on health and wellbeing. This technology will be running in the project’s nine Pilot Measurement and Verification Lines and Living Labs for five years.

arbnco’s digital platform gathers a range of data from air monitoring sensors – including temperature, humidity, CO2, volatile organic compounds, particulate matter and formaldehyde – along with data on the property and occupants to provide analysis on air quality issues and to deliver alerts on potential harms and advice on mitigating health impacts.

The arbn well technology will provide ubiquitous monitoring of indoor environmental conditions and engage with occupants to gather data on how the building is actually performing. Factors such as ventilation, natural light and temperature will be considered.

Andrew Stewart, arbnco R&D manager, said: “With 25 partners across Europe, this is an exciting opportunity for arbnco to collaborate with other net-zero technologies to further develop and enhance our indoor environment monitoring platform.

“We launched arbn well over two years ago in 2018, and ever since – especially in a COVID-19 world, we’ve seen indoor air quality attract increasing attention as an issue with cross-industry implications. arbnco is developing the technology of the future that will ensure buildings deliver optimum health, happiness and wellbeing for its occupants.”

arbnco is now marketing the arbn well platform worldwide to enable organisations to understand how the quality of their real estate affects employee satisfaction and productivity.

The website for the MEZeroE project (grant agreement number: 953157) is now live, and can be accessed at www.mezeroe.eu.
