Toshiba and Cool Designs attempt football world record for charity

General manager of Toshiba Air Conditioning, David Dunn, has teamed up with Cool Designs and other distributors, Dysk, GT Phelan and AMP for a world record attempt to play five football matches in five nations in 48 hours, raising a substantial sum of money for charity.

The All-Star Charity XI, made up of former professionals and television celebrities, will raise money for Children in Need and Special Olympics Ireland.

Pudsey the Bear will join them for the gruelling whistle-stop tour, which kicks off in Scotland on 1 August, before travelling to play matches in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Wales and, finally, England on 3 August.

The final game is against the TV Select XI, made up of players from popular television soaps, such as Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Eastenders and Hollyoaks.

David Dunn, who is playing in the All-Star Charity XI, said: “It’s going to be a lot of fun and I suspect completely exhausting. We have worked out the logistics to the second, there is no room for error. Everyone has been in training. I am looking forward to the final whistle and celebrating what we hope will be a new world record.”

He continued: “Our goal is to raise £30,000 towards the 2014 target for Children in Need. The Republic of Ireland match will share proceeds with Special Olympics Ireland, a charity close to the heart of Dublin-based distributor GT Phelan.”

Toshiba and Cool Designs are the main sponsors of the event, with DYSK, GT Phelan, Controlled Air Solutions, Vac Air Solutions and Bronz-Glow also in support.
