Experienced building services engineering sector professionals are being invited to apply to join the SummitSkills Board from 1 January 2012.
The sector skills council for building services engineering is looking for a new independent director to join its Board, representing the views of employers in the four industries that make up the sector: electrotechnical; heating and ventilating; plumbing; refrigeration and air conditioning.
Board members ensure that businesses have a voice in SummitSkills' work of lobbying Government and training providers for changes in skills and training structures to meet employers' needs.
Applicants would need to commit to about 12 days each year, including quarterly Board meetings. One of these is a two-day meeting, and some of these meetings may be held in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
Anthony Smith, company secretary of SummitSkills, said: 'This is an opportunity for anyone who wants to make a difference and has the enthusiasm and ambition to help improve standards of training and skills in the BSE sector. It is an exciting time to take on this role, as our sector will play a pivotal role in helping the UK to achieve its challenging carbon reduction targets and enable households and businesses to take advantage of Government incentives to produce and use energy in more sustainable ways.'
The closing date for applications is Friday 4 November. To apply, visit
