PTS heads 'silent killer' awareness campaign

Plumbing and heating goods supplier, PTS is urging merchants and installers to spread the word to homeowners on the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.
PTS heads
PTS, is already working with some merchants to create posters and information packs for installers, which will be distributed via their branch networks. The campaign will run from January 14 until January 19, 2008.

PTS is leading its carbon monoxide awareness campaign to raise awareness of the deaths caused by illegal installation and poor maintenance of boilers, fires and other gas appliances.

In 2006, 42 people died and 177 were injured from carbon monoxide poisoning named the silent killer that you can't see or smell.

Symptoms include severe headaches, chest or stomach pains, drowsiness, nausea, dizziness and lethargy. These symptoms are often mistaken for other illnesses or ignored with fatal consequences.

Alan Ball, managing director of PTS said: 'Since I joined CORGI as a member of the trust, I felt it was important that we made the first step in raising awareness at trade counters across the UK. I wrote to the managing directors of other merchants because I believe a co-ordinated approach will have a much bigger impact.

'Hopefully our campaign week will be just the start of targeting this problem and encouraging the installer to be aware of these issues when talking to homeowners.'

PTS has over 20,000 customers in the domestic heating, plumbing and sanitaryware market which it supplies. It is part of the BSS Group plc, a distributor to specialist trades.
