Independent testing of Hoval's new range of Belaria air-source, air-to-water heat pumps has confirmed a Coefficient of Performance of 3.8 - the highest efficiency ever measured for air to water heat pumps at the Buchs Interstate Technical University NTB.
Manufactured at a new 6,400 m² production facility, the modular Belaria range has operating temperatures up to 55ºC and is available in seven model variants with heating capacities ranging from 8.6kW to 33.2kW. Thanks to the advanced design of these units, they are able to extract heat from the air at ambient temperatures as low as -15°C. A 6kW electric heater and heating pump is also incorporated into the units with outputs from 8.6 to 15.4 kW.
High efficiencies have been achieved through considerable attention to detail, ranging from the use of high levels of thermal insulation to a suction gas heat exchanger that ensures higher levels of heat recovery. Further running cost savings are achieved by the use of a start-up current limiter that reduces the current on start-up.
Belaria heat pumps are fitted with the Hoval TopTronic T heat regulation system, which maintains optimum indoor temperatures while maintaining very low noise levels. The TopTronic controller also facilitates integration with other heat sources, such as solar or biomass heating.
The compact Belaria units feature a small footprint, with the largest models measuring just 130 cm wide, 98 cm deep and 193 cm high, and can be installed either inside a building or outdoors. The modular configuration of the Belaria series offers a wide range of solutions to suit each project, including ducted units for replacing older heating systems, space-saving versions and weather-proof options for external installation.
The Belaria range is complemented by Hoval's Thermalia ground source heat pumps, which include brine-to-water models for extracting the energy naturally stored in the earth; and water to water heat pumps for use with groundwater.
Standard Thermalia heat pumps, using refrigerant R407C, permit operating temperatures up to 55°C and the series contains 17 models with performance ratings from 5.4kW to 81.1kW. The Thermalia H series, using refrigerant R134a and comprising 15 models with performance ranging from 5.2kW to 57.4kW, allows operating temperatures up to 65°C. H Series units are designed for applications where higher operating temperatures are required and where the warm water is to be used directly without a supplementary water cycle.
