New speakers announced for BCIA and B&ES Summit

New speakers have been announced for 10-80-10 The Building Services Summit which has been launched by The Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) and B&ES (Building & Engineering Services Association).

Deborah Rowland, head of property asset management for the Ministry of Justice is one of the latest speakers to join this event and will be addressing the issue of long term value in facilities management. She previously held a central FM role in the Cabinet Office to review how FM is procured and managed across the central government to drive out efficiencies. She also developed the FM Strategy with the pan departmental FM Board that culminated in the FM Central Contract Model which is now being procured by the Crown Commercial Service.

Ms Rowland also leads on Government Soft Landings (GSL) which is an objective of the Government Construction Strategy to align construction and design with those that use, operate and maintain buildings and has developed a policy for government which forms part of the Building Information Modelling (BIM) and is being implemented in readiness for the mandate in 2016.

She will be joined by Russell Forshaw who is head of facilities management for Manchester Central. Based on his own extensive experience, Russell will present a case study which looks at refurbishment of existing buildings in order to achieve better energy efficiency.

BCIA president Steve Harrison said: “Building services equipment is responsible for over 80% of energy consumption in commercial buildings and with new technology boosting the capability for energy conservation it is imperative that users understand this potential and transfer that knowledge into real savings.”

He continued: “This is exactly the aim of The Building Services Summit and the growing list of speakers and partners who will all address key issues that are faced by our industry today will help delegates to not only understand where savings can be achieved but also enable them to learn from the experience of others in order to take action.”

The Building Services Summit takes place at the Barbican, London on 27 November 2014. For more information visit www.buildingservicessummit.co.uk
