Each year long standing members are elected to the honorary posts, and for 2010 the CIPHE president is Allan McIntosh from the Scottish branch. Lee Davies from Portsmouth branch is vice president.
Chains of office were handed over at the CIPHE annual general meeting.
McIntosh has been training apprentices at his plumbing firm Allan McIntosh Plumbing and Heating Engineers for more than 30 years. Allan has been assisting lecturers at Tullos Training in Aberdeen and was instrumental in setting up an exchange scheme with a construction skills college in Gomel, near Chernobyl.
He is actively involved in supporting the Belarus teachers with training material and books. He is also a judge for the Scottish Apprentice Plumber competitions.
Davies is deputy chief executive of the Institute for Learning (IfL), the independent professional body for teachers and trainers throughout the further education and skills sector. He started his career in plumbing as an indentured apprentice with Portsmouth City Council in the early 1980s. Having successfully completed his advanced plumbing qualifications at Highbury College Portsmouth, he started teaching part-time evening classes and progressed to a full-time teaching position at the college. He joined IfL in 2004.
'Every year each president and vice president make a big difference to our Institute in their own way and we'd like to thank outgoing president Ben Bradshaw for his hard work and commitment,' said Blane Judd, chief executive of the CIPHE.
'In 2010 I am delighted we have two members in the top posts who are both heavily involved in education and learning. Their duties will take them to many schools and colleges and I know they will have an inspirational presence at these events.
'The next generation of plumbing and heating professionals will be entering the industry at an exciting but challenging time. Top quality training and apprenticeships are essential to help them develop the necessary skills and experience to meet the emerging technical and environmental challenges.'
