One of the most luxurious new living spaces in the UK is to be fitted out by a Birmingham-based firm of building services engineers.
J S Wright has won a £2.5-million deal with joint venture partners Galliard Homes and Frogmore Real Estate Partners II to equip Marconi House in London's Strand.
The building, owned by Strand Developments, incorporates 86 high-specification apartments and penthouses that have access to an adjoining five star hotel.
J S Wright has already started work on site installing comfort heating and cooling, ventilation, hot and cold water services and above ground drainage for the development, which is scheduled for completion in August 2011.
The work includes designing and supplying the cooling and ventilation plant, which will also provide a carbon-saving heat recovery service.
Representing the ultimate in refinement and sophistication, Marconi House enjoys superb views across the capital, a 24-hour concierge service and the most up to date home technology befitting its historic past.
Formerly the Gaiety Hotel and Restaurant, the building was converted to the headquarters of the Marconi Company in 1912 and provided the location in the 1920s for the first radio transmissions made by the fledgling British Broadcasting Corporation. A Grade-2 listed façade remains following redevelopment in 2005.
The building's automatic features include keypads replacing light switches, audio-visual phone and data systems, and iPad-style remote control touch screen devices.
Donagh O'Sullivan, Construction Director for Galliard Homes, said: 'We recommended J S Wright for this major project because of their professional, responsive and proactive approach in all our dealings. They are always mindful of the bigger picture.'
Marcus Aniol, J S Wright Manager Director, said: 'We are delighted to have been appointed by Galliard Construction for such a five star residential project. It shows that we have truly come of age as one of UK's' leading building services contractors.'
