Industry views sought on qualification review

The views of HVAC professionals are wanted to help revise the industry's national occupational standards (NOS) and S/NVQs.
The sector skills council for building services engineering, SummitSkills, has put forward a draft set of proposals to improve the UK's national occupational standards.

The standards describe the nationally-recognised level of competance needed to undertake a job. The proposal documents requiring review cover the following subjects:
· Electrotechnical Services
· Electrical and Electronic Servicing
· Plumbing
· Heating & Ventilation
· Cooling

Many of the skills in the NOS are more than eight years old and do not take into account new working practices, legislation, technologies and environmental considerations.

SummitSkills' review process intends to create a consistent style, layout and terminology across the sector's qualification standards and produce more user-friendly NOS.

Since the start of the year, SummitSkills has been meeting with the sector's employers and industry bodies to discuss what they would like to see in the revised qualifications.

You can submit your response to the proposals by November 26.
