Asset Skills Training has launched a new energy efficiency course for housing in response to a demand for clarification of the new government green schemes.
Energy efficiency is high on both government and personal agendas. From 2018, it will be illegal to rent out inefficient properties, leading to 20 per cent of affordable housing stock being removed. Cutting carbon emissions, reducing energy bills and ensuring buildings are energy efficient is becoming increasingly urgent as new legislation is fast approaching and all new homes will have to be built in a green way.
With so many complex schemes addressing energy efficiency, including the Energy Company Obligation, Green Deal and Renewable Heat Incentive, Asset Skills Training has developed a one-day course on energy efficiency to educate owners of homes and businesses about energy conservation and regulations. The course gives learners knowledge on energy used in the home, and different energy efficiency schemes and how to promote their benefits to tenants or homeowners.
Whether it’s a new boiler, double glazing, solar panels or SMART meters, it is important that tenants understand the benefits of the installation and how it will support them in the long-term, including which government subsidies are available.
A wide variety of professions can benefit from this course, including local authorities, housing associations, estate agents, letting agents, large construction firms and those working with and installing household appliances on a daily basis, including plumbers, electricians and gas fitters.

We recognise that it has never been more important for companies, tradesmen, local authorities and estate agents to work together to ensure people aren't wasting energy needlessly.

Taking part in this training means that participants can advise tenants and homeowners how to save money and boost their own employment prospects.'
